Core purpose of my business
Savvy Guest partner adult education and the business community, encouraging equality and inclusion. The digital platform enables adults to apply for pre-career conversations with company employees. It is positioned to improve adult career advice, capture rich data and measurable outcomes to help shape business strategy including, equality, diversity and inclusion.
Why I started my business
I founded Savvy Guest, after observing the lack of good career advice available to adults seeking relevant career tips, industry insights and realistic expectations of job roles. I knew the business model had to be accessible to all demographics and embarked on creating a digital platform to solve this problem.
I’m no stranger to business, my first cap and gown graduation ceremony was staged in the UK at a Manchester Primary School in 1996. My first business, Young Graduate, has seen over 50,000 children, young people and adults use my services.
Using my skills to drive a culture of collaboration, I developed my innovative adult career platform Savvy Guest and established recognition in the creative and digital sector.
My passion for promoting equality in education and employment has earned me many awards and accolades nationally and internationally.

My main role model in life and/or business
My role model in life has been my mother who instilled in me the values of honesty and integrity. In business, Oprah Winfrey was the first woman who inspired me.

Session Chair for the World Assessment Council's web series, 'Educators This Week', featuring prominent educators of the world who engage in an online panel discussion around global trends in education.
Challenges I’ve faced in business and how I’ve overcome these
With little knowledge of the technology sector, I spent two years planning the mechanics of how the business would operate. A lesson learnt was, always carry out due diligence and checks on your suppliers. I had merely trusted verbal recommendations which turned out to be a very costly mistake.
Advice I’d give to someone currently starting or growing a business
- Starting and running a business is a rollercoaster, you’ll have highs and lows, listen to your customers as their experiences will guide you.
- Invest in a mentor/business coach, widen your networks and be consistent in your message.
- Ask your customers or prospective clients why they choose to work with you? Use their responses as leverage in promoting your business.
- Look outside of your sector to expand your business knowledge and awareness.
- Use your negative experiences as a positive lesson, it can be a catalyst to propel you to another level, see it as an opportunity.
