Open the door to business growth

Help to Grow is a £520 million scheme to help owners of small and medium-sized business take their business to the next level.

Help to grow

Two government-backed programmes – Help to Grow: Management and Help to Grow: Digital – are designed to help business leaders learn new skills, reach more customers and boost profits.

Help to Grow: Management offers senior business leaders management and leadership training, delivered by business schools across the UK.

Help to Grow: Digital offers businesses free, impartial advice on how technology can boost business, delivered through a new online platform.

Why has the programme been developed?

The UK has a longstanding challenge with SME productivity. We’re home to some of the world’s most innovative firms but have a larger proportion of less productive firms than our peers, such as France and Germany. There is strong evidence that leadership and management skills and digital adoption are key drivers of firm-level productivity:

  • According to the Office for National Statistics, making small improvements in management practices can lead to a 10% increase in productivity.
  • Analysis from the Confederation of British Industry suggests that boosting the productivity profile of UK SMEs to match that of Germany could add up to £100bn to the economy.

Announced as part of the 2021 Budget, Help to Grow will support small businesses to improve their management and digital adoption and reach their growth potential.

The government-backed Help to Grow: Management course will open the door to growth for thousands of business leaders.

Delivered by leading UK business schools accredited to the Small Business Charter, Help to Grow: Management includes 50 hours of in-depth training, 1 to 1 business mentoring, and the opportunity to grow your business, fast.

The 12-week programme costs £750 and is 90% subsidised by the government. You can take part around your existing work commitments and learn with a blend of online and face-to-face sessions.

The course covers strategies for growth and innovation, leading high-performance teams and digital adoption, financial management and responsible business practices. You will hear from inspirational business leaders and learn alongside local peers, with access to a national alumni network.

By the end of the programme, you’ll have developed a tailored business growth plan to increase productivity, grow your revenue and help take your business to the next level.

From December 2021 businesses across the UK can get free and impartial online advice on how technology can boost their business performance.

Businesses will also be able to use a voucher scheme to apply for a discount of up to 50% on the costs of approved software, worth up to £5,000.

With many businesses needing to adapt the way they do business during the pandemic, the government hopes that Help to Grow: Digital will help them build on their new ways of working.

Register your interest in the scheme and find support to help take your business to the next level.

Seizing opportunity is what being a business leader is all about, and our Help to Grow Management Scheme gives entrepreneurs the chance to access the very best advice on how to innovate, reach new customers and boost profits.

The practical training scheme is 90% funded by the government and designed around busy business owners’ schedules, so I would encourage entrepreneurs across the UK to get involved and maximise the potential of their business.
